Cautela Labs Achieves SSAE 16 SOC 2 Type II Certification for its Security Services Operations

Critical components include the ability to reduce risk, assure business continuity and provide controlled security measures to ensure data confidentiality

Phoenix, Az.  November 10, 2014 -- Cautela Labs, an award-winning global technology firm that specializes in IT Security compliance services and solutions, today announced it has achieved SSAE 16 SOC 2 Type II certification for its IT Security managed services operations. The achievement demonstrates Cautela Labs’ commitment to its clients and partners that the company exceeds security, compliance and safety-related requirements for controls and safeguards when hosting customer data.

The SSAE 16 SOC 2 Type II certification is a reporting standard established by the AICPA (American Institute of CPAs) to report on the controls and services provided to customers. It is a critical designation for any organization that handles sensitive data within the medical or insurance claims processing, payroll processing, loan servicing, SaaS, and Network Monitoring Services industries. The certification is of particular importance to Cautela Labs’ healthcare, financial services and public sector partners and clients, for which SSAE16 SOC 2 Type II certification is often a pre-requisite to doing business.

Cautela Labs completed a stringent, independent audit of its technology services, processes, and controls before the company achieved its designation.  The critical components to obtaining SSAE16 SOC 2 Type II certification include the ability to assess and reduce risk, assure business continuity, and provide controlled security measures to ensure privacy and confidentiality of data. Cautela Labs already had the SSAE16 SOC 2 Type I certification and now has added the Type II. The SOC 2 framework is a reporting option specifically designed for entities such as Managed Services companies as well as many other IT related entities.  Within the SOC 2 framework there is a comprehensive set of criteria known as the Trust Services Principles (TSP) that are composed of the following five (5) sections that need to be accounted for:

•    The security of a service organization' system.

•    The availability of a service organization's system.

•    The processing integrity of a service organization's system.

•    The confidentiality of the information that the service organization's system processes or maintains for user entities.

•    The privacy of personal information that the service organization collects, uses, retains, discloses, and disposes of for user entities.
